An EXTREMELY RARE Browning Superposed. This gun is a PURE Field 20ga, 28ga, .410 Bore three barrel set "Made for Abercrombie & Fitch." This gun has 26-1/2" SK/SK barrels in the three gauges. The 20ga and .410 barrels have 3" chambers. All three barrels have Field forearms, and standard Field style front bead sights with NO mid rib beads.
Now the bad news - the gun has a custom butt stock with a LOP that measures 16" over a White Line pad. Obviously its original owner needed a slightly longer LOP than most of us. I am presently looking for a round knob stock with a butt plate to make the gun correct. If I find one the price will go up!
According to Schwing's data only 528 Grade I 20ga guns were made by "Special Order" from 1960 through 1969. This would include anything from the addition of a pad to multiple barrel sets. Just try to imagine how many of those guns might have multiple barrel sets, then try to imagine how many would have been 20/28/.410 sets from A&F. I have encountered several 20/20 sets, several 20/410 sets, and even a couple of 20/28 sets, but this is the first Grade I 20/28/410 set with field barrels and forearms I believe I have ever seen. I'm sure it's not the only one, but I bet you can count them on your fingers and toes. Oh, and it has the original "OPEN" Warranty - never been filled out!
As it sits now the LOP is 16" over a 1" pad with drop of 1-1/2" to 1-7/8" with no cast. The metal on the gun shows no real wear - I'll call it 98++% condition. The forearms are clearly original Browning forearms and are NOT Salt Wood. The .410 and 28ga forearms are about mint. The 20ga has some minor handling marks. The lever is well right of center with any barrel on the gun. The gun weighs about 7 lbs. - Big Honkin' Piece of Wood!
Imagine the possibilities. Find a stock! Send it to Angelo! Cut this stock to your length and just kill Quail!
